State of Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs
The State of Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP) plays a crucial role in addressing substance abuse issues within the state. As a government agency, DDAP is responsible for developing and implementing policies, programs, and initiatives aimed at preventing and treating drug and alcohol addiction. The department focuses on promoting public health and safety by working collaboratively with various stakeholders, including treatment providers, law enforcement, and community organizations. DDAP also strives to raise awareness about substance abuse, enhance access to treatment services, and support individuals on their path to recovery. Through its efforts, the department contributes to the overall well-being of Pennsylvanians and works towards creating a healthier and drug-free community.
State of Pennsylvania Commonwealth Opioid Prevention Alliance
State of Pennsylvania Commonwealth Opioid Prevention Alliance The opioid epidemic continues to hit Pennsylvania particularly hard. Although the U.S. as a whole is in the midst of an epidemic of opiate addiction and overdose, the rate of drug-related overdose deaths in Pennsylvania is almost double the national overdose death rate. Other health statistics reveal that the opioid epidemic continues to hit Pennsylvania particularly hard: Of the 44 counties in the U.S. with more than one million residents, Allegheny and Philadelphia rank #1 and #2, respectively, in rates of overdose death. 2 In Pennsylvania in 2017, 1 out of every 37 hospital admissions were opioid-related.
City of Philadelphia Substance Use Prevention and Harm Reduction (SUPHR)
State of Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Recovery Treatment Initiative The goal of this initiative is to connect individuals suffering from substance use disorder with treatment options. Drug overdoses are now the number one accidental killer in the Commonwealth. It is our greatest public health challenge and our greatest public safety challenge. When a Pennsylvania county joins the Law Enforcement Treatment Initiative program, every law enforcement entity within that county has an opportunity to save lives and play a role in breaking the stigma of drug and alcohol addiction. The program empowers law enforcement officers as well as others to guide individuals who are suffering from addiction into treatment, rather than diverting them into the criminal system.
