Schuylkill County PA Recovery Education Advocacy Community Health Reach
Schuylkill County REACH was formed in September 2017 to address the rise of opioid overdoses in Schuylkill County. During their most recent strategic planning session, Coalition members identified five priorities to guide their efforts over the first three years of coalition work: Educate individuals and families about addiction and overdose to prevent initiation of substance use among Schuylkill County residents. Ensure that all individuals have the opportunity for successful recovery and build supportive communities. Eliminate barriers to increase access and utilization of Substance Use Disorder (SUD/Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) treatment programs. Eliminate stigma in Schuylkill County. Coordinate efforts between law enforcement, the legal system, and treatment.
Schuylkill County Vision Opioid Response Program
Schuylkill County Vision Opioid Response Program After the successful completion of a planning grant, St. Luke’s Hospital-Miners Campus was awarded a 3 year “Rural Communities Opioid Response Implementation Grant” from the Health Resource and Service Administration (HRSA) in 2019. The grant project’s goal was to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) and Substance Abuse Disorder (SUD) in the high-risk communities by strengthening the organizational and infrastructural capacity through a multi-sector consortium. The target population for this project included the students, staff, families and community members of Tamaqua Area School District (TASD), Panther Valley School District (PVSD), Child Development, Inc. (Head Start Schuylkill County program) and PathStone Corporation (Coaldale Head Start program).
